"BEWARE OF ALLIGATORS." Um, what? Someone probably should've mentioned that little bit of information before we started paddling. I'm now told that the swamp our kayaks are gliding through is home to 12,000 of the toothy reptiles. Great.

Today, though, the paddle trail we're taking has only "moderate" gator activity on the forecast. And besides, my companions assure me, if we stay far enough away from the predators and keep our hands and feet inside the boats, everything will be fine.

Soon enough, I'm distracted by the beauty around us. The moss-covered cypress trees seem to float on the surface, their trunks reflected on the dark, tea-colored water. It's stunning.

When I think of the word "swamp," I imagine a dark, desolate, decaying place. This swamp is anything but. We spot birds, turtles, and deer on our peaceful loop around the refuge. Even the alligators are photogenic—as long as they keep their distance.

I bet you'd love it here. But first, tell me: Where Am I?

The entry deadline has passed. The mystery location is the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia. Congratulations to our winner, Patricia Davis, a Webelos leader in the Baltimore Area Council. She was randomly selected from a pool of 355 correct responses.
