Boys' Life Preview

Boys' Life magazine helps make your Scouting program and your Scouts excel. Research shows that boys who subscribe to the magazine advance farther, spend more time outdoors, and stay in Scouting longer than those who don't. There's something for everyone in Boys' Life. And everyone can receive the magazine every month.

Check out these exciting articles scheduled for publication in the May and June 2010 issues of Boys' Life.

THIS JOB'S A HIT

Looking for extra motivation for boys dreading the Communications merit badge? Here’s a nice pitch: play-by-play announcers get paid to watch baseball and get to travel on the team’s private plane. Sure, the job isn’t all fun and games, but there’s nothing like it for baseball fans. Check out the May issue for an interview with Scott Franzke, the Phillies’ radio broadcaster.

BUCKLE UP

Your stomach may turn at the very sight of the world’s fastest roller coaster, the 134-mile-per-hour Ring Racer, set to open this year. But the thrill-seekers in your unit will surely react differently once they spot this story in the June issue. They’ll get a rush from just reading about the newest, steepest, and most extreme roller coasters in the world.

HIKING HALF DOME

Eight hours into their hike, the guys of Troop 1 from Santa Barbara, Calif., reached the base of Half Dome, the famous Yosemite landmark. But the 400-foot-climb that separated them from the summit wasn’t going to be easy. The incline on the east face of Half Dome is so steep that hikers must pull themselves up using a row of cables. The May issue has the tale of these Scouts, who drew on months of preparation and gritty determination to reach their goal.
