Bring the Family to Philmont

A family vacation to the Philmont Training Center promises top-notch leadership training, incredible outdoor adventure, and a whole lot of fun.

Mom and Dad, you don’t get to have all the fun this summer. Leave enough room in the minivan for your kids, because they’ll love what the Philmont Training Center (PTC) has to offer. While you’re getting lessons in the latest leadership techniques at the national BSA facility in Cimarron, N.M., the rest of the family can enjoy activities targeted toward them.

This summer’s slate of training courses for unit, district, and council volunteer and professional Scouters and junior leaders promises to be a top-notch experience that will last a lifetime. But while that’s going on, family members of any age can enjoy educational and exciting programs designed just for them.

Participants arrive on Sunday afternoon to check in and then have a full week of action before a Saturday morning departure. You'll stay in PTC tents, which are large, two-person wall tents with wooden or concrete floors and an electric outlet. Each tent village has a restroom with hot showers nearby.

Experienced Scouters teach the leadership courses and have at their disposal the latest tools to provide an unmatched week of learning.

Fees include conference and program materials, meals, and lodging. They are: conference participants, $450; spouses and children over 20, $320; children ages 6 to 20, $270; ages 3 to 5, $170; 2 and under, $60; mountain trek, $340; NAYLE (National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience), $340.

Check with your local council for an invitation to a conference. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, check out www.philmonttrainingcenter.org, or
