Safety Quiz: Talking the Walk

Find a trail. Put one foot in front of the other. Repeat for mile after glorious mile.

It sounds so simple, right? But Scouters know hiking is more than a three-step process. And they understand the journey begins well before arriving at the trailhead.

You’ll want to make a plan, gather the right gear and prepare for unexpected emergencies. In short, you’ll want to Be Prepared. This applies whether we’re talking a 1-mile hike with your Wolves or a 100-mile trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

Hiking is worth the effort. In addition to the health benefits, hiking builds teamwork and teaches young people to overcome adversity.

The views are spectacular, too. Many Americans won’t venture more than a mile into the wild. By hiking, you’ll leave crowded overlooks in the dust as you visit parts of our country few people get to see.

But before all that, let’s talk safety. After reviewing your trusty handbook, the Hiking merit badge pamphlet and the Guide to Safe Scouting, lace up your boots and take our quiz.

Anyone who takes this quiz below will be entered to win a $100 scoutshop.org gift card. (Contest ends October 31, 2019, but you can still take the quiz afterwards). Best used with the most updated version of your web browser.
