From the Chief: It’s Personal

SCOUTING IS VERY PERSONAL TO ME. Outside of my family and church, the next strongest influence on my life was Scouting.

That’s why I couldn’t be more excited at the prospect of working shoulder-to-shoulder with you as Chief Scout Executive, together serving America’s young people. Chief Scout Executive Wayne Brock Chief's Message

I work for the Boy Scouts of America because I believe in Scouting—it’s not the other way around. We have 102 years of strong tradition behind us, and I want those tried-and-true traditions to continue. At the same time, our ability to deliver a quality Scouting experience also depends on new and innovative thinking to effectively guide our young people through the challenging demands of today’s world.

Together we can positively affect the lives of young people in a number of ways: by ensuring that our programs are relevant, appealing, and accessible to all youth—including those of all cultures and economic backgrounds. We’re making that happen with Scouting program elements that teach and encourage skill development in science, technology, engineering, and math.

We’re also providing the tools and resources that our volunteers and employees need to accomplish our mission. At the same time, we have a laser focus on promoting, enhancing, and protecting the BSA as a brand.

Scouting has a bright future as we look ahead to our second century, thanks to the hard work you put forth for our Scouts every day. Volunteers are special people, and I admire the time, talent, and treasure you dedicate to our movement for the benefit of young people. As always, your thoughts are welcome on how we can build on the terrific momentum that Scouting is experiencing right now.

Assuming the role of 12th Chief Scout Executive is a great honor that carries with it great responsibility. I appreciate Bob Mazzuca and the rest of the leadership team for their tireless efforts launching the second century of the BSA. To each of you I pledge, “On my honor, I will do my best” to keep the torch burning bright and the trail clear for the great Scouting adventures that lie ahead.
