Boys' Life Preview

Boys' Life magazine helps make your Scouting program and your Scouts excel. Research shows that boys who subscribe to the magazine advance farther, spend more time outdoors, and stay in Scouting longer than those who don't.

Check out these exciting articles designed to make advancement easy and fun, scheduled for publication in the May and June 2009 issues of Boys' Life.

Surf's Up: A Feature for All Scouts

They live just a few miles from the ocean, but only one of the boys in Florida Troop 566 had ever been surfing before they decided to make surfing lessons a troop event. Have your dudes check out the May issue to learn about surfing history (it was invented by the Polynesians), surfing lingo (“wipeout” isn’t just a hit song from the ‘60s), and surfing safety (always use the buddy system).

Real-Life 911: A Feature for Boy Scouts

If your boys are trapped in a car, stranded in a desert, or in a serious accident, are you confident that they’ll know what to do? That’s the idea behind the Emergency Preparedness merit badge, but it’s also the subject of a feature in the May issue. Make sure to point your boys to this informative look at safety that features a quiz to test their readiness for an emergency.

Welcome Wagon: A Feature for Cub Scouts

In classic westerns, Conestoga wagons are seen creaking along dirt trails behind a team of loyal oxen. Families relied on the wagons to haul their belongings as they found new homes. Centuries later, the wagons themselves served as homes to a group of Georgia Cub Scouts who used the 19th-century vehicles as overnight shelters on a weekend trip. Tell your pack to hop on for the ride in the June issue.
